Throwback Thursday|Natural Hair Influences
I can remember as a child and young adult, gazing in awe at the naturals on my television. I remember distinctively wishing that my hair would curl up like theirs, or wanting their braids, or to be able to do the cute updo's that adorned their heads. All the while not knowing that they did not have some magical curl potion, and that my hair was capable of the same things.
I decided to reminisce on the kinks, curls, and protective styles that were worn by some of my favorite ladies, and are still popular, today! These women were definitely influential in my decision to return my hair to it's natural glory.
I've loved this girl ever since she was Olivia on the Cosby Show!
Mona in Half and Half always had such big, funky hair...and I LOVED it!
Moesha and those braids made me want to get my hair braided every time I watched the show!
Denise on the Cosby Show was so eccentric and I loved her style, as well as her free flowing locks!
She had (and still has) us all wanting those box braids and baby hair!
The very loquacious and outspoken Freddie on A Different World and her beautiful curly and frizzy hair always had my attention!
Tracee Ellis Ross
Joan Clayton on Girlfriends is my ultimate hair/girl crush! She was always so versatile with her hair styles and I could not help but to love her!
My fave from the amazing Spice Girls! Just look at her hair! Big and fierce! Love it!
The witty and snappy Maxine Shaw from Living Single. I loved the bold braided bob look that she would wear, and the different ways that she would wear it!
I love and her long and frizzy hair!! I just loved her!
Tia and Tamera Mowry
Sister, Sister! I wanted their curls sooo bad!
Lisa Nicole Carson
Her hair and all its glory! Everything about her hair, I LOVE IT!!
There are so many women, today, who are inspiring us with their lovely hair!
(Left to Right) Malinda Williams, Goapele, Solange, Sophie Okonedo, Lupita Nyong'o, Viola Davis, Jill Scott, and Yaya DaCosta.
And as a reminder, I still have the vision board on my wall that helped me through my transition.
