Q & A|Natural Hair

Q: Hi, my name is Shykara! I’m new to your blog, but I was thinking about going natural too. I’m kind of on the fence about it though?

A: Hello Shykara! I’m new to blogging all together! Going natural is something that I am really inspired to do. Look in any magazine, on television, school, work…etc and you’ll see plenty of lovely ladies with curly hair to inspire you like I have.  Other races of women wear their hair as it naturally grows from their scalps. Why can’t we? You should take a look at “Thank God I’m Natural” by Chris-Tia Donaldson. It opened my eyes to the bad things that chemical relaxers do to our hair.

Q: I totally agree! I’ve watched ALOOOT of videos on YouTube and transitioning, and last week I bought a bunch load of natural hair products online. I think I’m probably going to start my process next month because I have a weave right now

A: Be careful about the products that you buy, and you do not want to buy a lot of products that cater specifically to naturally curly hair if your hair is still transitioning.  It’s a process that takes patience and I’m an impatient person! lol I’ve been transitioning since September ‘10 and in a few more months, I’ll be fully natural when I do the big chop!

Q: how do I get my hair to get loose natural curls like that? mine are like springs I want them to loosen up….

A: Hey!
Well you could use a thick set of hair rollers or flexi rods to set your curls and loosen them. Or even a bantu, braid, or twist out.

Q: Hello!! I love the picture you posted of your hair! Did you blow-dry it or put any heat on it before you put the rods on? Does it last or do you have to roll it up every night? Just curious :o)

A: Hello and thank you for the compliment!
When I set my hair with the rods I don’t use any heat. Just washed it with conditioner, detangled, used a leave-in, jojoba oil and set the rods. I don’t keep the style that long but it should last if you roll or twist it or even do the bantu knots.  Go to YouTube and search for Chary Jay’s channel “160Days2Lose2”. There are a lot of great tutorials there :)

Q: hiya! I was wondering what routine shampoo and conditioner you really like to use.

A: Hey there!
Well I like the Jane Carter Solution line of products. I’ve just started using them but they’re really great! The Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and Restorative Conditioner along with the Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque left my hair moisturized and soft!
