Grocery Cart Confessions

Grocery shopping can be a bit of a hassle (for me at least), every now and again.  It's one of those things that I don't feel like doing, unless I'm preparing an exciting recipe, but it has to be done.  Sometimes I'll buy things on an empty stomach (and get home and wonder why my bill was so high), other times I'll stick to the list.  Honestly. my favorite part of grocery shopping is seeing how much I saved!  Enough small talk, let me share with you a few of my recent grocery trips, impulse purchases, and favorite items.

Popcorn with Herbs & Spices, Frozen Kale, Frozen Asparagus Spears, Sunflower Butter, General Tsao's Sauce, Steelcut Oatmeal, Organic Bananas, Very Green Smoothie, Popcorn with Herbs & Spices, Dried Cranberries, Vegetable Masala Burger, Coconut Oil, Steelcut Oatmeal

This is one of my favorite stores that I can get significant items at for a low cost.  Seeing that there is not a Trader Joe's location near my house, I usually make a sporadic trip after work.  The one thing that I absolutely have to have from Trader Joe's is their coconut oil.  They had been out for a few weeks, and even though I had grabbed some elsewhere, I still purchased it from here when I saw it was back in stock.  As of late I've been using coconut oil on my skin in addition to my hair and it works wonders!

I don't like to buy those big name bottled smoothies, so whenever I'm in Trader Joe's I pick up their "Very Green" smoothie.  It's not chalky or bitter, and the greens are not overpowering.  This drink is very sweet and I love it! Their frozen steelcut oatmeal is amazing for breakfast at work!  Just zap it in the microwave, and top with some fruit and/or nuts and breakfast is served.  Next to my beloved Boom Chicka Pop, Trader Joe's popcorn with herbs and spices is my favorite!  Lastly, a great addition to an Asian themed meal is Trader Joe's General Tsao's Sauce.  It adds the perfect touch (recipe coming soon)!

Impulse : I saw  someone post on Instagram that the Vegetable Masala Burgers were good, so you know that I had to make special trip to try them out.  They were pretty good, and I will probably grill them next time.  I bought this sunflower butter out of curiosity and it still in my refrigerator...I have yet to try it.

Gardein Chicken Scallopini, Green Onions, Cherry Tomatoes, Bananas, Oranges, So Delicious Almond Milk Vanilla Ice Cream, Angie's Boom Chicka Pop, Starkist Albacore Tuna, Silk Soymilk Yogurt, Toasteds Wheat Crackers, Kraft Colby Jack Cheese, Essentia Alkaline Water, Morning Star Buffalo Chik'N Nuggets, Apple Cider Vinegar, Fuji Apple, Red Bell Pepper

Meijer is my first choice when it comes to an actual grocery store, just because I can get a plethora of items in one spot!  A few of my favorite items from Meijer, though not exclusive to the store, are the Boom Chicka Pop, my faux meat choices, shredded cheese, and produce.  I like to believe that these items are fairly priced and they are easily accessible so that I don't have to travel from store to store.

Impulse : Ice cream.  Especially an entire pint! I can honestly say that I did not finish that pint of ice cream.  It was really good, though.

365 Roasted Vegetable Pasta Sauce, Organic Spinach, 365 Whole Wheat Linguine Pasta

There is something about Whole Foods that has a hold on me.  Though the prices are slightly higher than the other two stores mentioned, there are a few items that I only get from there.  The pasta at Whole Foods is sooo good !  It's not too tomato-y and doesn't need any added seasoning (the roasted garlic with Parmesan is just as good)!  If you hadn't guessed, this is one of those times that I went to the store for ingredients to accompany a specific recipe.  That recipe being spaghetti, and I still call it spaghetti, even though I use linguine.  All I added to the pasta dish was some chopped mushrooms and enjoyed a side of spinach salad with balsamic vinaigrette.  There was nothing impulsive about this purchase.

What do you have to purchase on a trip to the grocery store?
