This past weekend was kicked off to a great start at the Embrace the Natural You 2014 Natural Hair Brunch & Women's Panel.  It was held on the lower level of the Detroit Historical Museum, and the event was empowering and a great chance for naturals and entrepreneurs alike to network.  The event was hosted by the founder of Embrace the Natural You, Ginny Anyiah, and its signature sponsor  was Design Essentials Natural.

After being invited into the room where the brunch was held, the awaiting group of women and some men were checked in and given a gift bag full of samples for their attendance.  The first 25 people received a full size product from Beautiful Textures, and yes, I was one of those people.  Their were several vendors and a table of light refreshments waiting for us on the outskirts of the room.  After being seated, we were escorted by tables to the brunch buffet of  scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, pancakes, french toast, honey fried chicken, vegan breakfast pitas, potatoes au gratin, and virgin mimosas. The food was very good, especially vegan pitas (and I now have a new found love of tofu).  During our meal, were serenaded by the sound of Detroit artist Charity Clef.  She definitely has a new fan in me!  Shortly following the musical entertainment was the women's panel moderated by Ginny Anyiah and featuring CharyJay (YouTuber), Yodit Mesfin Johnson (Lips & Hips), Charity Clef, Victoria Roby (The Natural Market), Jaya Michelle Otis (cosmetologist), Chloe (YouTuber), and Gwen Jimmere (Naturalicious). During the panel I was taking notes, and decided to share a few key points that stuck out to me:

  • Social media is a window of who you are, what you value, what your brand is, and what you represent.  It is a reflection of you.

  • Build with your customers, don't decide what they want.

  • The biggest failure is not expecting failure.

  • People are attracted to passion, and will come when you love what you do.

  • Stop waiting on the right moment.

Check out some pics from the event!

I purchased these earrings at the event from Intertwined Designs of G.A.I.I.U. www.idogaiiu.storenvy.com

I really enjoyed myself and met some cool new naturals, and I can't wait to see what event ETNY comes up with, next!
