anomaly (n.) [uh-nom-uh-lee] - a deviation from the common rule, type, arrangement,or form.
As of late, I have not been able to find any good new music, but one of my favorite rapper's, Lecrae, doesn't disappoint with his new album "Anomaly". Known to many as a Christian rapper, Lecrae is a breath of fresh air in a music industry that continues to belt out repetitive rants of: twerk that, pop that, shoot/kill that, drink that. Yes, Lecrae's prolific presence is needed and greatly welcome.
The music of Lecrae has long been my "hype man" on those days that I need a boost of encouragement, energy on my morning commute, or just to hear the gospel over a dope beat. A few of my favorite songs from his previous projects are: "Fakin'", "Go Hard", "Desperate", and "Jesus Muzik". Lecrae is at the top of his game with "Anomaly".
If I had to pick a song to be my favorite on this new cd, it'd be "All I Need Is You". These lyrics will tell you exactly why:
“…Coulda dealt with me, but You fell for me before I fell for You.
To keep me on that right path, and the right math
'Cause You plus nothing is everything.
You’re my everything…(All I need is)
You, ain't gotta question my allegiance
'Cause the way You love me I could never leave You. I need You.”
Lecrae's wordplay along with his blatant reverence for Christ is what is missing in a lot of today's music. No, you do not have to be a Christian to listen to his music, obviously. Besides, it's not about religion, it's all about a relationship. Like the title of the album, Lecrae and his music are an anomaly, deviating from societal standards of what's hot. I can't help but be wowed by not only this song, but this entire album!
